Back to School Safety Campaign Ideas for Municipalities

Back to school season is here and it’s time to start rolling out your safety and awareness campaigns. The best way to implement a campaign about services that are provided by another agency is to pool resources and collaborate. If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to get in touch with the school board and transportation department.

Here is a brief outline of some ideas/ways to start on developing your campaign strategy.

Partners

There are many other organizations you can partner and collaborate with, including:

  1. School Boards
  2. Transporation Departments
  3. Individual Schools
  4. Local Businesses
  5. Parent Teacher Associations
  6. Student Ambassadors
  7. Police/RCMP/Peace Officers
  8. FCSS and other agencies

Audiences

  1. Students
  2. Parents
  3. Schools & Teachers
  4. Residents
  5. Businesses
  6. Media

Campaign Ideas

  1. Crosswalk Safety
  2. School & Playground Zone Driving
  3. School Busses & Rules

Tactics

  1. Posters
  2. Radio & Television Advertising
  3. Large and Small Print Advertising
  4. Video
  5. Social Media
  6. Media Kits
  7. Signage
  8. School visits
  9. Giveaways
  10. Swag (colouring books, etc.)

Safety is always a major concern for residents and during back to school season, it’s especially so for parents & teachers. If you work alongside other agencies in a collaborative manner, you can pool resources (time, money, etc.) and ensure the safety needs of some of your most vulnerable population are met.
